02 · The Challenge
What needed to work better.
Website analytics tools provide substantial amounts of data, but interpreting that information can require specialized knowledge and time.
The design challenge was not simply to display more metrics. It was to help organizations understand what their website-performance evidence shows, how related signals connect, and where investigation may be useful.
North Star combines supported Google Analytics 4 and Google Search Console evidence with visitor, acquisition, search, and page-level context.
The system separates measurement from interpretation: source data remains the evidence, deterministic processing organizes it, and governed analysis explains only what that evidence supports.
Key challenges
- Analytics and search data live in separate sources
- Metrics need context before they become useful evidence
- Page-level changes can be difficult to connect to broader patterns
- Interpretation must remain traceable to the underlying measurements
03 · The Solution
A system designed around the evidence.
Traffic & Sources
How people arrive and how acquisition patterns change.
Search Engine Visibility
How search demand, impressions, clicks, and queries shape discovery.
Visitor Activity
What visitors do and where attention or engagement changes.
Pages & Health
How individual pages perform and where evidence suggests investigation.
04 · Behind the System
Technology with a defined responsibility.
North Star is a web intelligence product built to make website and search evidence easier to understand and use.
I developed the product around a recurring gap: analytics platforms can provide abundant measurements while leaving the work of interpretation to people with limited time or specialized expertise.
GA4 + Google Search Console
Supported source integrations provide the measurements used as evidence.
Evidence governance
Source measurements remain distinct from the findings and explanations built from them.
Dashboard architecture
Summary, investigation, and action views support different levels of decision-making.
Bounded interpretation
AI assists where interpretation adds value without replacing evidence or product judgment.
05 · Implementation
Evidence of the work.
The implemented product connects verified GA4 and Google Search Console integrations, organizes their evidence into a consistent interface, and supports analysis grounded in those sources.
Dashboard and interaction decisions evolved through interface iteration: summaries provide orientation, deeper views support investigation, and recommended actions retain supporting evidence rather than presenting unexplained conclusions.

06 · Outcomes & Learnings
What the work establishes.
GA4 and Google Search Console integrations, dashboard views, and evidence-backed analysis behavior are implemented. North Star remains in beta and continues to be refined.
- Supported analytics and search evidence can be viewed through one product experience.
- Four performance pillars create a stable structure for investigation.
- Measurements remain distinguishable from interpretation.
- Findings and recommendations can retain visible evidence and context.
- Interface testing continues to shape hierarchy, explanation, and workflow.
